Time to stick my neck out. India versus Sri Lanka - 1st. Test.

It looks like the first test between India and Sri Lanka is going to be truncated by the weather. It will rob the people of Chennai a second time in a  matter of days. That's such a shame as the Indian cricket team has a great record at this ground.

Congratulations to Sharad Pawar on becoming the new BCCI president. He is making all the right noises for now and I  hope that  he will truly bring in professionalism and accountability which are currently alien to the organization. It is high time the selectors were allowed to work without interference. The mess that Jaggu created regarding the award of telecast rights  needs to sorted out pronto. Indian cricket has lost tens of crores as a result of this fiasco.

It seems that Saurav may make a return to the side. I personally believe that it is time to give Yuvraj a run in the test side but if Dada performs well, nobody should have a problem with that. As long as the team wins I do not care where the top performance comes from. There is the danger of getting too caught up with personalities and personal opinions to lose sight of the team's goals.

My personal opinion is that Dada is done as a top player. I think he will do reasonably well against the Lankans on our slow pitches but will come a cropper against the Pakistanis in PAK and against a rejuvenated English attack in India. Dada is still good against spin, except of the Afridi variety, and Vaas is losing his edge. I am on record as saying that he will not last beyond the Pakistan tour, come what may. The chance is slim but I will be only too happy to be proved wrong if he plays extremely well and helps the team win. That is much more important than the opinions of all the cricket pundits in the world put together, yours truly included!

Nice to see the players arrive on time and take practice seriously. The whole team looks more professional and clinical in its approach now. It is sad that Saurav has discovered discipline and fitness only after being dropped.

I think Greg Chappell has done a great job since taking over and it would be nice if a few people from Kolkata were man or woman enough to admit it. It would only increase their stature.

Looks like the Chennai test is going to be washed out. I cannot see Sri Lanka win any test in this series. I think they will save one and lose one for a 1-0 scoreline. Well, I seem to be very much in the mood to stick my neck out today!
